We got to meet up with a start-up company called Akvall, however they were all engineers so making a visual identity and a website to go with that was none of their specialties so that is what we got to help them with.
A brand new fresh visual identity with a website fully functional and ready for release. Down below you will find a link to what we made them.
What is Akvall? Even after reading the initial explanation of what Akvall had created, this question still lingered in my mind and on my team's minds. Akvall had developed an innovative solution for converting cold water into warm water in a more sustainable manner. As I am not an engineer, I won't attempt to explain the physics behind this invention.
After our first meeting with one of the people from Akvall, we gathered some information about what we needed to do and what they also desired. They requested from us a visual identity, a website, and perhaps some cool animations. However, they weren't strict about how much of everything they wanted; they simply told us to do what we could within the time limit, which was about a month.
Unfortunately for our team, Akvall later decided to completely halt their company due to issues that I am still unaware of. But that didn't deter our team. Instead, we continued to create a visual identity and eventually put up a website because we had already started.
Below, you can see one of the images provided by Akvall in the presentation they sent us.
Before creating anything, we researched websites that could be similar to Akvall. Each one of us took time individually to gather research on their requests and on similar brands. From our perspective, Akvall had requested something futuristic and minimalistic, and this was also evident in the research and mood boards we created.
After conducting research, we had a clear idea of what we were aiming for. We wanted to create a visual identity that was both futuristic and minimalistic. One thing Akvall emphasized was the use of warm and cold colors, which aligns with the essence of their brand. During my research, I also sketched some logo concepts, and when I presented these to my team, they recognized that one of the concepts had strong potential.
Akvall had spoken extensively about the pattern associated with their invention, which our team also found appealing. This was another element we wanted to incorporate into our visual identity. With various elements in mind, our task was to bring everything together to create a cohesive visual identity. Fortunately, they had provided a clear direction for us, making it relatively easy for us to craft a visual identity, as seen below.
Now that we had established a visual identity for the brand, we needed to put it to good use. As per the request, we created a website. Amalia and Gabrielle spent most of their remaining time in Figma, while I devoted most of my remaining time to Webflow. They sketched out ideas and provided input on how they wanted the website to look, and I primarily implemented these ideas in Webflow. I also contributed to the design of the website.
We decided to create a one-pager since we felt there wasn't enough content to justify multiple small pages. Additionally, without a specific client to guide us, we took the creative freedom to design something that we were pleased with. The information we had was derived from Akvall's old website, which contained only about two sentences and a contact list.
However, we wanted to showcase the product Akvall had developed and explain its purpose and functionality. This information was present in the presentation they provided us, and we decided to include it on the website to help potential customers understand what the product actually is.
To create the content for the Akvall page, we used AI generation, as we didn't want to involve any of the original creators of the brand, considering they had completely abandoned the project. Therefore, the team of Akvall and the history of Akvall on our page were all AI-generated.
You can find the website linked at the top of the page under "Solution".
This project was intriguing for my team and me, mainly due to the unique situation with Akvall abandoning the project. While everyone else around us was working with clients, we had the freedom to chart our own course. We were all content with the results, but we also wished for interested clients who could appreciate what we created for them.
Webflow was a tool I wasn't personally familiar with before starting this project, and I owe a big thank you to my team for allowing me to experiment extensively with Webflow throughout most of the project. It was a highly educational experience for me and has been incredibly helpful, especially in creating this website.
It would have been ideal to have more content at our disposal, including real images and paragraphs to work with. Nonetheless, I believe we made the most of what we had.
Working in a group can sometimes be a challenge for me, but I think this project progressed smoothly. We all found effective ways to navigate our challenges and leverage our individual strengths. Communication played a vital role, and I learned that clear communication is essential when working in groups. I want to give a shoutout to my team for making this project easy to cooperate on and facilitating excellent communication.
